The Blood Bank Medical Technologist performs routine and complex patient/sample pre-analytical and post-analytical compatibility tests using automated and non-automated methods, proficiency tests, quality control, and preventative maintenance per established policies and procedures. Provides accurate and reliable analytical results necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of the patients. Maintains inventory of supplies, reagents and blood products. Maintains non-analytic equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, cell washers and centrifuges.

• Performs all testing as per standard operating procedures. Performs bench work in all trained areas. Maintains desired turn-around times. Serves as a resource for technical questions and problem resolution. Troubleshoots problem specimens and interacts with medical staff and hospital staff as necessary.
• Assists in training and orienting new lab employees, hospital employees and students.
• Quality control is performed and documented as scheduled; resolves QC failures with immediate corrective action, documentation and notification to the supervisor or designee. Performs proficiency testing as required and documents results.
• Ensures integrity and appropriate use of IT systems; enters or edits patient results, QC results, and corrective actions; verifies completion of tests and monitors turn-around times.
• Ensures all instruments are properly calibrated, maintenance performed, and quality control completed prior to analysis of patient samples; institutes corrective action when performance is unacceptable; troubleshoots issues as applicable; communicates problems to the supervisor or designee; provides oversight in the absence of the supervisor as needed.
• Demonstrates leadership skills and supports staff development.
• Maintains professional composure under stress and accepts constructive feedback to promote excellence within the section.

• BS degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Scientist with training in Blood Bank.
• Recent and current Blood Banking experience is a must.
• Knowledge of SOFTBANK is a plus.
• Able to work as a team and multitask.

• National Certification
• Recent experience with Trauma and Bone Marrow Transplant

• Per Diem
• Weekend Evening shift, variable weekday shift if needed

Pay Range: $44.71 per hour
