Patient Representative I
Zufall Health
The Patient Representative (PR) serves as the frontline greeter and administrative support for patients entering Zufall Health Center. The role includes greeting patients, answering phone calls, conducting registration, eligibility checks, and facilitating appointment scheduling. The PR also manages payments, safeguards confidential information, and supports the mission and vision of the center through excellent customer service.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities- Adheres to all departmental policies and procedures.
- Conducts job duties in a professional and ethical manner.
- Works independently with minimal supervision while using resources for problem resolution.
- Completes assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintains confidentiality and patient privacy.
- Collaborates with team members to assure optimal patient care and service outcomes.
- Utilizes departmental resources prudently.
- Communicates positively to create and foster a positive image of the department.
- Communicates verbally and in writing, resolving work‑related issues.
- Keeps manager informed of work‑related issues at all times.
- Performs additional duties as directed by supervisor.
- Greets visitors and directs them to the appropriate destination.
- Greets patients and visitors positively, in person and by phone.
- Answers phone calls, schedules appointments and responds to inquiries.
- Ensures patients bring required documentation.
- Reminds patients of appointment times, documentation, immunization records, and reschedules when needed.
- Explains processes and forms to patients.
- Conducts insurance eligibility checks.
- Collects payments and records them in eCW, printing receipts; ensures funds are secured in a safe or locked drawer.
- Communicates with medical staff regarding patient visits.
- Prints requisitions or other forms as needed.
- Maintains a professional appearance and clean work area.
- Wears company‑approved attire; compliance with dress code and personal items.
- Participates in the required PR I exam after 3 months of employment with opportunities for training and re‑examination.
- Maintains patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and applicable regulations.
- Answers inquiries from patients and the public in person or phone, referring to appropriate departments when necessary.
- Communicates effectively in English and Spanish.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and electronic medical record systems.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Quick adaptation to changes in workflow or insurance rules.
- Ability to understand, carry out, and remember verbal and written instructions.
- Bilingual English and Spanish required.
- High School diploma; college credits or additional education in a medical field or insurance/billing preferred.
- Current, unrestricted New Jersey driver’s license or reliable access to transportation for travel to other sites.
- Minimum 1 year of customer service experience and 1 year of experience in collecting payments, billing or insurance.
- Experience in a clinical/ambulatory setting preferred.
Salary: $16.00 – $18.55 per hour
