Job Overview

Vetco, a division of Petco, the Health + Wellness Company, offers independent veterinary contractors the opportunity to work as a relief veterinarian. This role provides flexible online booking, no agency fees, and the ability to determine your rate for each shift.

Vetco Facilities

Vetco Vaccination Clinics offer wellness examinations, preventive vaccinations and medications, heartworm testing, and microchip insertion. No surgeries, emergencies, or sick visits. Clinics are located inside Petco retail locations and operated by trained staff.

Vetco Total Care Hospitals provide relief shifts that include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. All shifts are supervised by the area medical director and supported by advanced equipment such as digital patient records, surgical suite, Butterfly IQ+ handheld ultrasound, digital and dental X‑ray, Vetology Radiograph Interpretation AI, and on‑site labs. No overnight or emergency on‑call.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality veterinary care during relief shifts.
  • Use clinic and hospital equipment and adhere to established protocols.
  • Communicate with the area medical director regarding case comfort levels.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Participate in scheduled training and updates from the Vetco team.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
  • Appropriate state‑specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
  • DEA in good standing preferred for full‑service Vetco Total Care hospital relief shifts.
  • Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance and license defense policy.
  • Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
