Hospital for Special Surgery, #1 in Orthopedics, is looking for a Full Time Athletic Trainer in Dr. Michael Milligan’s practice in Palm Beach County, Florida.
Athletic Trainer OverviewUnder the direction of the physician, you will function as a physician extender by ensuring efficient flow of patient visits during office hours. You will work closely with the physician to ensure a cohesive approach to injury management and injury prevention. Key responsibilities include preparing medical records for client visits, providing medical information to clinicians, coordinating/overseeing the follow‑up process, assisting with procedures, patient education, and implementing the treatment plan.
Additional responsibilities include administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, checking in patients, filing records, and answering phone calls. Your role promotes a professional atmosphere through courteous communication with patients, visitors, and team members.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee the follow‑up process to maintain continuity of care.
- Obtain medical records prior to client visits.
- Organize and maintain client charts.
- Assist in development of program procedures and protocols.
- Coordinate clinician referral process and maintain referral network database.
- Create personalized exercise programs for patients.
- Organize patient information for physician review prior to appointments.
- Provide general patient education and field patient questions.
- Under physician supervision, answer phone calls.
- Develop appropriate fitness and training programs for patients, including home exercise and activity modifications.
- Assist with coordinating testing, physical therapy referrals, medication prescriptions, and follow‑up visits as recommended.
- Document patient progress toward desired outcomes.
- Maintain clear and legible history and physical documentation.
- Act as liaison between physician, nursing, and office staff to promote effective patient care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Create, scan, and file patient charts (including double identifiers).
- Prepare patient charts in anticipation of office hours.
- Scan medical records into EMR system.
- Answer telephone, route callers, take messages, and provide routine information.
- Schedule patient appointments and ancillary tests.
- Obtain prior authorizations.
- Licensed by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (ATC).
- Bachelor’s in Sports Medicine or related field.
- CPR & ACL certified.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Ability to perform heavy physical activity.
Continuously stand/walk, lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20–50 lbs). Indoor area with exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise.
