Position SummaryThe Nurse Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an RN School of Nursing and has successfully completed a Nursing fundamentals course. Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the Nurse Extern’s skills and training. The Nurse Extern can perform higher‑level procedures once competency is achieved and may be preceptored by an RN.
The Nurse Extern is expected to convert to an RN position within four months or less of graduation. If conversion does not occur, the Nurse Extern will be required to transfer to an alternate position and cannot continue in this role.
- Assists with patient care functions.
- Delivers indirect patient care.
- Demonstrates leadership.
- Participates in the quality improvement process to improve patient outcomes.
- Enrolled and in good standing at a school of nursing.
- Successful completion of a nursing fundamentals class.
- Prior clinical experience in area of expertise preferred.
- BLS/CPR (American Heart Association)
- CPI due at the end of the month within your 90 days in the position.
