Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Position Summary:
A Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, operates imaging equipment, and works closely with physicians to diagnose and treat diseases. This role combines technical expertise with patient care and safety practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Preparation:
Interview and screen patients prior to procedures
Explain test procedures and ensure informed consent
Position patients correctly for scans
Radiopharmaceutical Handling:
Prepare and administer radioactive drugs
Monitor patients for adverse reactions
Adhere to safety protocols for storage and disposal
Imaging and Equipment Operation:
Operate gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners, and related equipment
Capture diagnostic images as ordered by a physician
Calibrate and maintain imaging equipment
Data Management:
Process and analyze scan data Prepare detailed diagnostic reports for physician interpretation
Maintain accurate patient and procedure records
Safety and Compliance:
Follow radiation safety procedures and monitor exposure levels
Comply with state, federal, and institutional regulations
Participate in quality assurance and control programs
Collaboration:
Work with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare providers
Assist in scheduling and coordinating imaging procedures
Train and supervise student technologists or new staff
Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field
Certification by:
ARRT (Nuclear Medicine – NM) orNMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board)
Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and radiopharmaceuticals
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
