Job SummaryThis position focuses on fiber laser development for medical lasers at Lumibird Photonics USA, Inc. The Optical Engineer will develop, build, test, and operate prototype laser systems for various medical applications and environments. They will support all areas of R&D and production, including process development, material management, and quality assurance, ensuring a consistent flow of products that meet specified requirements. Responsibilities include external part fabrication to final product packaging.
SupervisoryResponsibilities
- Lead the New Project Development team
- Oversee the laser and component technicians
- Characterize fiber laser components and systems, and conduct reliability testing.
- Analyze optical systems using Zemax or RP Photonics.
- Perform optical tests with equipment such as OSAs, oscilloscopes, power meters, M2 test set, and beam profilers.
- Coordinate with vendors for optical, electrical, and mechanical components.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams for system integration and validation.
- Design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot defects.
- Maintain detailed engineering documentation.
- Support manufacturing transfer and provide technical support.
- Troubleshoot laser architectures and optical components.
- Support vendors and conduct audits.
- Evaluate new product designs and assess manufacturability.
- Develop manufacturing procedures and utilize ERP software for process improvement.
Skills and Abilities
- Experience with resonant-cavity or MoPA fiber laser designs
- Understanding nonlinear effects and gain dynamics
- Knowledge of laser packaging and reliability standards
- Ability to work independently in R&D environment
- Experience with laser modeling and diagnostic tools
- Bachelor's in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Master's or Ph.D. preferred
- Minimum 3 years experience with fiber laser systems
- Expertise in fiber preparation and splicing
- Experience with fiber splicing programs and systems
- Knowledge of fiber laser behavior and system integration
- Leadership experience in projects and teams
