Position: Shared Living Provider

CHD’s Shared Living program offers an alternative residential setting to the 24-hour group home. This model provides an opportunity for individuals receiving services through the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to live with someone committed to integrating individuals with intellectual disabilities into their home and daily life.

Shared Living is akin to adding a member to your household — similar to the adoption process. The individual would participate in social activities as appropriate and be included in the home’s daily routine. Care provided is tailored to the individual’s needs, including assistance with activities of daily living such as meal preparation, medication management, financial transactions, and transportation to appointments.

The provider also serves as a source of social engagement and community involvement. The female individual served cannot be placed in a traditional family setting but will benefit from a one-on-one caregiving relationship with a female provider.

This position is for the greater Springfield area. The individual receives daytime services and some evening and weekend hours to provide relief for the shared living provider. The provider will also help engage her in social and recreational activities to meet her social needs.

Requirements include a calm, clean home and at least three years of experience working with DDS clients or individuals with mental health needs. Ability to promote client independence, provide informal counseling or guidance, and help alleviate anxieties is essential. CPR certification and prior experience as a shared living provider or foster parent are required.

Preferred qualities include being detail-oriented, enthusiastic, and dedicated—showing strong interest, enjoyment, and loyalty to the role.

Motivational qualities include the ability to make an impact, inspired by contributing to the success of the organization or project.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcome protected veterans and individuals with disabilities. All applicants will be notified of their rights under federal employment laws. For more information, review the Know Your Rights notice from the Department of Labor.
