Overview
The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University welcomes applications for Scenic Artists. CATF is a leading producer of contemporary plays dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays per season in 3-4 venues and is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering a collaborative, inclusive community.
ResponsibilitiesScenic Artists will work under the Festival Charge Artist to assist in mixing paint, creating samples, and executing scenic techniques and treatments. Artists may assist in leading or training interns and support the Scenic Art Department’s Festival Charge Artist, Assistant Charge Artist, two Scenic Artists, and two Scenic Art Interns in finishing, painting, and producing scenery for the festival’s six productions.
Qualifications- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs and work on ladders and lifts up to 20 ft tall.
- Knowledgeable in realistic faux finishes, 3D texturing, staining, and previous repertory and/or professional experience.
- Flexibility, positive attitude, the ability to take direction well and work independently.
Seasonal position from June 2 – July 12 (possible extension through early August). All staff and interns receive free, air‑conditioned housing within walking distance of the theaters and work spaces, 1–2 meals per day during tech, and free use of university gym, pool, and laundry facilities.
