You believe that school is preparation for life, more than simply the next level of school. You are passionate about Elementary School. You love teaching and supporting students through these years of growth and change and enjoy contributing to their academic, social and emotional development. An advocate, a guide and a strong supporter of your students - that’s you. A bilingual (Dutch/English) teacher who will teach our young learners in the Dutch language while embracing the ASH curricular experience.
Just as in life outside the classroom, you believe that students with different backgrounds, gender identities, and learning abilities benefit from working together. Supporting your students energizes you. You love coming to school to work with them. You are solution oriented and like to contribute to a positive, enjoyable working environment.
You are independent and confident in the classroom. You understand team dynamics and work well with teams of other educators and administrators. You are an excellent communicator and see parents as your partners in their child's education. When making decisions, you focus on how we can best serve our students and parents, always looking for a way in which we can make ASH just that extra bit better for them.
You recognize that learning is not confined to a classroom or a timetable. Having an open mind and being able to give and receive constructive feedback is something you pride yourself on. As a lifelong learner you are energized by new ideas, professional development and sharing your learning with your colleagues.
You are a certificated, Elementary School Classroom Teacher with some experience of highly successful classroom teaching in an American, Canadian or international school. You have both a theoretical understanding and classroom experience in applying developmentally appropriate, inclusive and differentiated practices.
In addition you;
- have an MA preferably with specialization in elementary teaching and learning, literacy and/or special education,
- speak both Dutch and English fluently,
- have experience with current international educational practices including curriculum integration, research-based literacy instruction, using data to drive instruction, standards-based planning and assessments, and social emotional learning integration.
The Role
:
The role is supervised by the Elementary School Principal and you’ll collaborate with the grade level teams. As part of the 60 strong Elementary School faculty, you will be working in our Early Childhood Center as part of an innovative launch of a dual language pathway. You’ll work alongside a dedicated team of teachers and specialists to help enhance the teaching and learning experience of these young students.
You will be working with a Teaching Assistant and will be responsible for evaluating the Teaching Assistant on an annual basis and will be supported in doing this.
The Work
:
As an Elementary School Classroom Dual Language Teacher, your daily activities involve working with your teaching assistant to implement the teaching plans that you have prepared. Together with your teaching assistant and the strong support teams we have in place, you create meaningful learning experiences that help all students connect with and understand the subject matter based on their individual needs and abilities.
On a daily basis, one of your key tasks will be to help the students use the learning tools we have through strong language experiences, and enable them to become independent learners and problem solvers. You will encourage learning through discovery, selecting age appropriate projects for the students so they can learn in a hands‑on way.
Daily lunch cover is part of your work as is supporting parents…
