L.E.A.D.S. Peer Mentor
Shepherd L.E.A.D.S (LEADS) will provide an experience for new students to make connections, gain knowledge and skills in navigating college, and engaging in community service both on and off campus prior to the beginning of the fall semester. Students will work on academic preparation and skill building through interactive and engaging sessions and connecting with faculty, staff, and peers.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as mentor and role model for incoming first-year students and transfer students, fostering a supportive and motivating transitional environment
- Assist students in navigating challenges and exploring opportunities for personal and academic development
- Model professionalism, integrity, and effective leadership
- Listen actively and provide feedback to support students' growth and confidence
- Provide guidance and encourage positive decision-making, resilience, and self-advocacy
- Understand and promote the benefits of civic engagement
- Serve as site leads for on & off-campus service projects
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate with sophomore, junior or senior standing
- Must have attended Shepherd University for at least 2 semesters
- Must be in good academic standing and conduct standing with the university
- Must have a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative GPA
- General understanding of Shepherd University operations, including departments, services, and campus layout
- Must be available during training & program dates:
Move-in/Training:
Wednesday August 12-Friday August 14 Program dates:
Saturday August 15-Thursday August 20
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior or current experience mentoring, tutoring, or coaching students
- Prior or current leadership experience in campus organizations or community programs
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and accountability
