ResponsibilitiesResponsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting PC hardware and peripheral components. Installs and verifies correct operation of software packages, including operating systems and typical office programs. Provides training and technical assistance to end‑users. Identifies and resolves hardware, software, and operator problems. Performs basic‑to‑moderate hardware repairs and references complex, vendor‑restricted, and warranty repairs to authorized service personnel.
Core Duties and Responsibilities- Provide workstation (PC, laptop, tablet, etc.) support, troubleshooting, repairing, and inspecting end‑user hardware and software; assess root causes and recommend remedial and long‑term solutions; answer questions and provide on‑site training; assist users with IT processes.
- Install and test end‑user computer hardware and software (PCs, laptops, tablets, printers, IP phones, mobile devices, wired and wireless); assess issues and provide remedial service; train users and help them navigate IT processes.
- Maintain technical expertise through reading, online training and other IT department resources.
- Provide general device‑level network support.
- Coordinate projects: identify and document issues, risks and barriers; manage workload; report status, variances and issues; maintain documentation; help control project costs; communicate project risks and developments.
- Build and mentor teams: participate in training, development, and professional development sessions; work cooperatively in group problem‑solving; support coworkers and ensure a positive team spirit.
- Travel to WVUHS facilities as required for implementations, training and support.
- Adhere to WVUHS and site policies.
- Accept on‑call responsibilities and respond by phone or on‑site as defined by Department Policy.
- For some WVU Medicine sites, support biomedical equipment: liaise with repair vendors, coordinate service contracts, document service, perform preventive and basic repairs.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Associate degree in Information Technology or a related technical field, or two (2) years’ experience with personal computer hardware and software support.
- Certification may be required; completion will be required within four months of formal training.
- Internal employees must meet all mandatory competencies in the current position for IT promotion eligibility.
- A+ Certification, CCNA, MCP, or MCSE.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping are necessary.
- Must respond quickly to visual and audible alarms from automatic monitoring systems.
