Job Summary: The Operations Manager will oversee the day-to-day production activities within the hot rolling and scalping departments, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in the hot rolling processes and equipment, and a commitment to continuous improvement within hot rolling and cross department initiatives.
Responsibilities- Safety Management:
- Champion a strong culture of following plant safety standards.
- Conduct audits and correct non-compliant behaviors and situations.
- Quality Management:
- Work hand in hand with department and site level quality team.
- Participate and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Production Management:
- Direct and coordinate all operations to meet production targets.
- Monitor process parameters and KPIs to optimize process.
- Ensure compliance with metallurgical and customer specifications.
- Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor production foremen and shopfloor employees.
- Develop training programs and KPIs to enhance employee skills.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
- Report out regular updates to Senior Management.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Identify and implement lean manufacturing processes where needed.
- Develop tools to determine mill availability and capacities.
- Work hand in hand with maintenance department to prioritize jobs and time frames to complete them.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in aluminum rolling operations.
- At least 3 years of experience in leadership roles.
- Strong knowledge of hot rolling processes and mill equipment.
- Proven track record in safety, quality, and process optimization.
- Excellent leadership, communications, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to pass pre-employment testing under specific area of discipline.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to a new environment.
- Scope:
Responsible for the scalping and hot roll departments and all production activities within. - Magnitude:
Over 100 hourly employee organization. - Communications:
Work closely with Maintenance, EHS, Planning, and Quality. - Challenges:
Leadership under pressure; balancing throughput vs. quality, reliability vs. cost control.
