A cook is responsible for preparing food for a restaurant’s clients. The responsibilities and duties of a cook include:
- Setting up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
- Preparing ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
- Cooking food in various utensils or grillers
- Maintaining the kitchen clean and organized
- Sanitizing food preparation and serving areas
- Stirring or turning foods to ensure even cooking
- Cooking and seasoning food according to recipes
- Prepare, arrange, and serve food to waiters for distribution
- Give estimate of expected food consumption, requisite or purchase supplies
- Consult with supervisory staff as regards menu plans
- Get customers’ orders and prepare food according to specification
- Package foods for serving workers to deliver to customer
- Ensure that the equipment is always in the right condition; report to employer when any fault occurs
- Keep work areas clean and monitor oven temperatures
- Assist other cooks in times of emergencies
- Prepare side dishes and desserts
- Perform other tasks as employer requires.
