Storekeeper – Materials Management (Transit Division, Broward County Transportation Department)

Under direction of the Storeroom Supervisor and/or Manager, the Storekeeper performs a range of daily activities in the warehouse/storeroom. These activities include the physical handling/movement of material and using a computer‑based material management system to record these activities in an accurate and timely way. The Storekeeper is also responsible for the warehouse/storeroom window where they will process supply requisitions (issues of parts to a work order) with their customers.

The accuracy and timeliness of all warehouse/storeroom transactions are designed to maintain the integrity of the parts held in the warehouse/storeroom inventory.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Requires one (1) year in the operation of a vehicular parts storeroom such as ordering, receiving and inventory or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
  • Must obtain a Florida Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake and Passenger Transport Endorsement within six (6) months of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Warehouse (incoming deliveries) receives and unloads part deliveries from suppliers, verifies the count and correctness against packing lists and purchase orders, inspects and signs the delivery paperwork indicating correctness, damage, or shortages.
  • Warehouse (outgoing shipments) prepares parts for shipment, loads the parts onto the proper vehicle, gets the carrier to take possession of the parts being shipped (bill of lading) and returns the paperwork to Accounting Specialists.
  • Put‑away parts after receiving material on the receiving dock and verifying its accuracy; relocate the parts to their designated inventory location and record the put‑away in the material management database.
  • Transfer parts, coordinate and facilitate transfers of parts between warehouses/storerooms based on requests; record the part movement in the material management database.
  • Supply parts to customers at the storeroom window and record the transaction in the material management database. Requests parts not in stock to be procured, handles returns of parts to the warehouse/storeroom; record part movement at the warehouse/storeroom window in the material management database.
  • Perform filing and record keeping; may operate office equipment; may operate forklift, medium‑size trucks and buses.
  • Oversee and assist crew members as a team leader, making sure requests/special projects assignments are completed safely and efficiently by established deadlines or achieving goals; meet with crew about upcoming projects and events per pre‑scheduled meetings.
  • Coordinate with other storeroom personnel the daily operational activities each shift performs internally and with external groups.
  • Responsible for the general housekeeping activities of the warehouse/storeroom.
  • Perform inventory counts as needed.
  • Maintain a safe place to work and safe working conditions.
  • Perform related work as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
Work Environment – Physical Demands

Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Involves routine and frequent exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions.
