The Analyst of Category Performance Improvement will play a key role in shaping data-driven category strategies to drive growth, enhance profitability, and improve productivity of our assortment. Through holistic category reviews, this person will collaborate across teams to analyze market trends, assess vendor and product performance, and develop actionable plans that improve business outcomes. The ideal candidate will bring analytical rigor, strategic insight, negotiation experience, and the ability to partner effectively across functions to deliver results.
Responsibilities- Strategic insights:
Build and lead category review process in collaboration with Marketing, including assortment benchmarking, vendor negotiations, and private label assortment and strategy. - Analytical rigor:
Perform quantitative analysis, develop models, and support creation of dashboards (using tools like Power
BI and Excel) to assess category performance (profitability, space insights) and vendor funding. - Negotiations:
Work with Marketing leadership to negotiate annual CMA funding from national brand vendors, by identifying points of leverage and participating actively in vendor meetings to drive incremental improvement year-over-year. - Cross-functional collaboration:
Work cross-functionally not only with Marketing, but also serve as a connection point with supply chain, finance, sourcing, and field operations to ensure recommendations and changes are executed and value is realized. - Change management:
Identify and test new approaches to improve category profitability, leveraging ‘Test & Learn’ methods to pilot strategies before full implementation.
Collaborates across marketing, finance, supply chain, store operations, and related teams to align and execute category performance initiatives.
RequirementsMinimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Analytics, Marketing, or a related field.
Preferred EducationMaster’s degree preferred.
Minimum Experience0 – 2 years in category management, marketing, or a performance improvement role, ideally within retail or consumer packaged goods (CPG) sectors.
Preferred ExperienceProficiency with data analytics tools such as Power
BI and familiarity with retail marketing strategies is beneficial.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Objective thinker who can drive decision-making using data and apply scrutiny.
- Self-motivated with a collaborative, proactive approach.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract management.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to travel independently 5%.
Hours & ConditionsMonday – Friday 8 hour day in office setting.
Physical RequirementsAbility to maneuver and regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
