The Senior IP Portfolio Architect is at the intersection of advanced power management as well as delivery technologies, products, and IP. The application space is next-generation platforms in mobile and personal electronics, optical and digital communication networks, and cloud-scale high-performance computing and AI servers. The Senior IP Portfolio Architect is responsible for the creation of IP and capturing patents with inventors of multiple companies while building business aligned portfolios.
This position is also responsible for the strategic prosecution in collaboration with outside counsels, assertion, and licensing.
Hybrid from Westborough, MA or Waltham, MA.
Responsibilities- Lead innovation from concept to impactful IP assets by championing the front end of the innovation pipeline, working directly with inventors and technical teams, uncovering novel ideas, shaping raw concepts, and transforming them into compelling protective IP assets.
- Drive the strategic IP positioning by identifying and developing high-potential assets for enforcement, licensing, and strategic partnerships; collaborating closely with business units to understand product roadmaps, market dynamics, and competitive threats; ensuring IP strategies are proactively aligned with business goals to enable value creation, risk mitigation, and innovation protection.
- Develop and manage a global patent portfolio in collaboration with top‑tier law firms, sustaining competitive advantage and ensuring the portfolio remains robust and aligned with Murata’s global power business roadmap.
- Focus on building, maintaining, and utilizing a patent portfolio that provides unfair competitive advantage in both high‑power and low‑power application domains.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of professional in prosecution, including experience at a law firm or in‑house position.
- Experience harvesting inventions from an international engineering team.
- Strong understanding of power management ICs, analog/mixed‑signal design, or related circuit‑level technologies.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
- Experience managing an international patent portfolio with knowledge of foreign filing requirements and procedures.
- PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Experience in the semiconductor or electronics industry.
- Current knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art and future trends in power electronics technology.
- USPTO registration as a Patent Agent or Patent Attorney.
- Familiarity with voltage regulators used for optical and digital communication networks, cloud‑scale high‑performance computing, and AI servers.
- Demonstrated ability to originate and develop novel patent assertion theses, including articulating technical, business justifications and risk mitigation; experience in claim charting, licensing models, IP strategy, and competitive landscape analysis.
- Prior experience interacting with multi‑national organizations.
Occasional travel to various company sites in North America and Japan, based on business needs.
