Assistant Grocery Manager - Overview

The Assistant Grocery Manager assists in leading and planning daily operations of the Grocery department, organizing materials and human resources. They ensure quality merchandise is displayed to maximize sales and profit while maintaining excellent customer service.

• Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful experience in grocery operations (merchandising, ordering, inventory, and pricing).
• Complete training in grocery operations.
• Ability to display initiative and work with limited supervision.
• Serv Safe certified.
• Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
• Flexible to work a schedule based on store needs.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

• Provide an open‑door atmosphere conducive to high associate morale and excellent customer service.
• Commit to the “Golden Rule” and work with associates to build a strong grocery team.
• Promote the company image as a service‑oriented operation.
• Ensure the department meets performance standards outlined in the work and merchandising plan.
• Facilitate department meetings, delegate, and use initiative and judgment.
• Ensure all new associates receive proper review and training of job descriptions, goals, and objectives.
• Administer discipline fairly to promote high associate morale.
• Assist the department manager with inventory, security, and expense control.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and all state and federal laws.
• Resolve customer complaints to satisfaction.
• Keep the department merchandised to community needs.
• Complete onboarding and e‑learning within 30 days.
• Order, receive, unload deliveries; store, price, date, rotate, and stock products.
• Maintain FIFO in display cases, coolers, and freezers.
• Control proper storage to limit shrink and damage.
• Achieve merchandising goals and standards with store manager and merchandisers.
• Assist with scheduling and payroll within budget.
• Adhere to wage and hour policies and maintain accurate records.
• Offer product samples and answer product questions.
• Minimize department expenses without compromising conditions or service levels.
• Conduct weekly sales meetings with associates.
• Monitor cooler and display area temperatures.
• Practice the “Cleaner’s Creed” and proper sanitation procedures.
• Ensure shelves are clean and displays are organized.
• Keep sales and work area swept, orderly, and safe.
• Exercise proper safety practices when moving product or using equipment.

• Verify price checks for customers as needed.
• Ensure product labels, signs, and prices are aligned.
• Notify management of theft or shoplifting.
• Clean walls, fans, and drains in coolers and display cases.
• Other duties assigned by management.

• Sitting, pulling up to 500 lbs, climbing up to 8 feet, and smelling – Occasionally.
• Walking on tile or concrete, carrying and lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing up to 500 lbs, bending, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, handling – Frequently.
• Standing on tile or concrete, reaching at waist or overhead, seeing and hearing – Continuously.

• Loud noise, slippery or cluttered floor, contact with sharp objects and skin irritants, toxic exposure, nuisance dust, fumes, sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions – Occasionally.
• Twisting of back and neck, hazardous equipment – Frequently.

• Pallets, pallet jacks, power jack, u‑boats, two‑wheeler dolly, pricing gun, case cutter, trash compactor, baler, elevators, computer, ordering machines, display dividers, approved cleaning supplies.

Continuous movement of entire body.

Working environment is inside and outside, may include exposure to cold temperatures in wet or humid environments.

In accordance with MA Pay Transparency requirements, the hiring range for this position is $19.40 – $25.20 per hour.
