Software Development Engineer, DaS Fin Tech

Amazon Devices and Services Fintech is the global team that designs and builds the financial planning and analysis tools for wide variety of Amazon’s new and established organisations. From Kindle to Ring and even new and exciting companies like Kuiper (our new interstellar satellite play) this team enjoys a wide variety of complex and interesting problem spaces. They are almost like Fin Tech consultants embedded in Amazon.

The ideal engineer for this space will be highly quantitative, have great judgment and passion to design and build a great customer experience, be inventive, and have a strong track record of delivery. You also have a pragmatic approach and iterative approach to building software: you have an ability to simplify and get things done with a demonstrated track record of building and delivering software and working effectively with external and internal teams.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will:

  • Lead architecture of large initiatives in scaling, security and availability.
  • Design, develop and support a world-class search and analytics platform serving individuals and businesses of all sizes.
  • Produce bullet‑proof code that is robust, efficient and maintainable; our primary languages are Java and Python.
  • Continually challenge what exists and explore what should be changed to best meet evolving business and market needs.
  • Possess expert knowledge in large scale distributed system design and engineering best practices.
  • Participate in setting a vision and objectives for Search Services in alignment with business and market needs.
  • Drive and work on algorithm and architecture design, execute and deliver results.
  • Invent the future of search, instead of just being a bystander.
  • Join a great group of motivated, top‑notch, people and work with them to solve interesting and useful problems in a fun, collaborative environment.
  • Lead team(s) of highly performing individuals in the design of flexible and scalable solutions, and day‑to‑day operations.
  • Work on real world problems on a global scale, own their systems end to end and influence the direction of our technology.
Key job responsibilities
  • Think big, bringing fresh ideas and interactions that make device services development easy and intuitive.
  • Take a long‑term view of architecture, proactively fixing deficiencies and/or proposing larger projects.
  • Understand the business impact of your systems and show good judgment when making technical trade‑offs.
  • Be a key influencer in team strategy.
  • Bring perspective and provide context to guide future technology choices.
  • Write software that is easy for others to contribute to, ensuring exemplary code submissions and approach to work.
  • Drive engineering best practices (e.g., Operational Excellence, Security, Quality, etc.) and set standards.
  • Build consensus and influence others to follow the best way forward in discordant views.
  • Contribute to the professional development of colleagues, improving their technical knowledge and engineering practices.
  • Ensure your team is stronger because of your presence, but does not require your presence to be successful.
  • Resolve technical issues quickly, with an elegant coder mindset.
  • Design distributed software using object‑oriented approach and technologies.
  • Identify bottlenecks in existing code/design and propose solutions.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems.
  • 3+ years of Video Games Industry experience (supporting title development, release, or Live Ops).
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
