Position: Wellness Center Associate/Personal Trainer (Part-Time)

Description

The Wellness Center Associate at the YMCA of Central Massachusetts provides a safe environment and helps to support individual’s Health and Wellness goals and initiatives while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. Serving others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; build relationships with and among members and program participants.
  • Enforces the operation rules and regulations with all members in accordance with the policies of the department and branch.
  • Responsible for completing Principles of Member Health & Wellness and Orientation to Healthy Living within 60 days of employment.
  • Communicates appropriately with individuals based on readiness to change; coaches them in support of their desired behavior change and regularly checks on members’ progress in meeting personal and program goals.
  • Shares wellness program information with members, using available tools and resources (e.g., handouts, schedules).
  • Asks and answers questions (e.g., post-enrollment interview) and displays empathy in support of helping members and program participants define and build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals based on their personal goals, cultural background, healthcare needs, diverse abilities and interests; develops plans to meet their individual needs.
  • Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment on the Wellness floor and report any equipment issues to appropriate staff.
  • Attend any staff trainings/meetings and maintain active certifications related to the position.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
  • Personal Trainer certification from a recognized, national organization (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, ISSA, CSCS) within 60 days of employment
  • Bloodborne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention training required Prior to date of hire.
  • Ability to (and at least one year of experience) developing positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Job Type

Part-time Please let us know your availability!

Schedule

Monday-Friday 2:00pm—5:00pm or 5:00pm—10:00pm, Saturdays and Sundays.

Pay

$15.00/hour Wellness Center and $18.00/hour Personal Training, Access to facilities for all YMCA employees, Employee Assistance Program, and Sick Leave
