Position Summary:
Kodiak Labor Solutions is partnering with Airtemp
, a respected mechanical contractor in Westbrook, Maine
, to add an Assistant Controller to their growing accounting team. This newly created position supports future succession planning
, offering a clear 2–3 year growth path to Controller
.
The Assistant Controller will handle the day-to-day accounting operations that keep the business running smoothly — from construction billing and project job setup to change order tracking
, reconciliations
, and month-end close
. You’ll also oversee payroll for 66 employees and maintain a strong connection between project management and accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage A/R billing for construction projects and maintain job cost accuracy.
- Set up new jobs in the accounting system, ensuring budgets and codes are correct.
- Process change orders and update project financials as needed.
- Support month-end and year-end close
, including reconciliations and journal entries. - Administer bi-weekly payroll for approximately 66 employees.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and leadership to maintain timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Assist the Controller with audits, process improvements, and financial analysis.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of construction accounting experience (mechanical, electrical, or GC preferred).
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and WIP reporting.
- Proficiency with Sage
, Viewpoint
, or other ERP accounting systems. - Solid knowledge of GAAP and general ledger principles.
- Experience processing payroll for mid-sized teams (50+ employees).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills; detail-oriented and dependable.
