JOB SUMMARYThe Outside Sales Representative develops relationships with potential and current customers to identify their needs and provides a consultative partnership. The Outside Sales Representative achieves maximum sales profitability, growth, and account penetration within an assigned territory and/or market segment by effectively selling the company’s services and negotiating sales contracts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Promotes/sells/secures orders from existing and prospective customers through a relationship-based approach and establishes, develops, and maintains business relationships with current and prospective customers in various market sectors to generate new business opportunities for the organization’s services.
- Makes telephone calls, sets up in-person visits, provides facility tours, and showcases company’s capabilities through presentations to existing and prospective customers; develops clear and effective written proposals/quotations for current and prospective customers; ensures that customers’ needs are identified and met in line with agreed quality standards; serves as primary point of contact for assigned accounts, ensuring efficient resolution of customer inquiries and concerns;
ensures customer satisfaction through ongoing communication and relationship management; resolves any issues that may arise post‑sale. - Attends and contributes to weekly production meetings, customer visits, project reviews and conference calls.
- Coordinates sales effort with marketing, sales management, accounting, logistics and technical service groups.
- Maintains detailed reports of sales activities including calls, orders, sales, lost business, and any customer or vendor relationship concerns; supplies management with oral and written reports on customer needs, concerns, interests, competitive activities, and potential for new opportunities.
- Attends industry trade shows and conventions to identify potential sales leads and make meaningful contacts; keeps abreast of manufacturing applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, advertising, and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature and consulting with manufacturing, marketing and technical service areas and industries to identify new opportunities for potential sales.
- Recommends marketing strategies to target potential market sectors; attends sales trainings, sales meetings, and educational activities to stay up to date on the latest developments, trends, and regulations in the marketplace.
- 2- or 4-year degree in a technical field or manufacturing trade.
- 3 – 5 years of sales, sales support, account management, or project management experience.
- Knowledge and experience with manufactured components; machined, fabrication and assemblies preferred.
- Long distance and occasional overnight travel required.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public.
- Must have demonstrated success in making sound decisions which could have a significant impact on the organization’s credibility, operations, and services.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, pro rata, percentages, and volume and to apply basic accounting concepts.
