The Electrical / IT Inspector will support LAWA's electrical construction inspection and work as a member of LAWA Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA's Capital Improvement Program. Electrical/IT inspection staff shall have a thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques of the electrical/IT trade; the ability to diagnose violations and hazards in new and existing electrical/IT installations and take a proactive approach during construction;

have a general understanding of low voltage systems including fire/life safety and information technology; have the ability to read and interpret contract documents, electrical codes, applicable standards. Inspectors must have the ability to set priorities, make decisions and work effectively with minimal supervision, deal tactfully and effectively with LAWA stakeholders, contractors, construction workers, and the public while conducting themselves in a professional manner at all times.

Job Duties
  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of electrical and IT systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, reviewing and interpreting construction documents including blueprints, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Prepare comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability.
  • Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72) and LAWA-specific standards.
  • Track and document time‑and‑material work, field changes, and job quantities.
  • Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
  • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third‑party agencies as needed.
  • Utilize electronic equipment to review and manage contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision.
Perform Inspections of Electrical Installations
  • Underground utilities and duct banks
  • High‑voltage switch gear and electrical panels
  • Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems
  • Interior and exterior lighting systems
  • Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM‑200 suppression systems
  • Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination
Inspect IT Infrastructure Installations
  • Low‑voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control)
  • Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems
  • Communication cabling and equipment rooms
Professional Experience Level /

Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience performing electrical/IT inspections for Building Construction
  • Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Electrical Inspector
  • Proof of NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years
  • Proof of Cal‑OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years
  • Training & knowledge of NFPA 70, 70E, & 72
  • Fall protection and harness training
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience at the journey‑level as an electrician, focusing on installation and repair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrial settings
  • Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects
  • Involvement in complex projects requiring coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials
  • Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring all aspects of construction meet required standards
  • Openness to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency
  • Strong understanding of diverse code requirements
  • Excellent communication and time‑management skills
