Position: Histotechnician (Days 6a-12p)

Receive, accession, process, embed, cut, stain, mount and label surgical specimens for examination by the pathologist.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Duties:
    Prepares gross surgical specimens for Pathology Assistant or Pathologist.
  • Other duties:
    Maintains accurate records of incoming and outgoing specimens and slides.
  • Quality:
    Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens.
  • Problem solving:
    Follows established guidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent or specimen problems.
  • Regulation Compliance:
    Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety.
  • People:
    Participates in staff meetings, helps promote effective working relationships.
  • Customer Service:
    Uses Patient/Family center values and conducts all work activities with respect to the rights and wishes of patients, visitors and patients families.
Qualifications

Education

Successfully completed a NAACLS accredited histotechnician program within the last 5 years. This requirement is waived for individuals who have a current HT(ASCP) certification or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), or an associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), and one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory.

Experience

Three years of Histology experience preferred.

Licensure

ASCP certification (HT-ASCP) preferred.
