Responsibilities- Perform patient care duties: identify self to patient/family, explain roles of the care team, accompany patients to exam rooms, prepare patients for visits (vitals, height/weight, blood pressure, EKG, specimen collection, phlebotomy, etc.), document history and medications in EPIC, perform screening per provider guidelines, assist with procedures, obtain pre‑authorizations, convey instructions to patients/family, provide resources and referrals, maintain records, manage EPIC inbox, and answer calls promptly.
- Carry out administrative duties: send/receive medical records, abstract new patient records into EPIC, obtain lab and radiology reports, complete requisitions, and be cross‑trained on front‑desk duties such as greeting patients, answering calls, scheduling appointments, and scanning records.
- Execute environmental responsibilities: set up instruments as per protocol, apply infection control principles, clean exam rooms and equipment between visits, clean sterilizer when applicable, and order, sort and store supplies per policy.
- Handle additional organizational duties: maintain patient autonomy and confidentiality, ensure accurate billing, stay current on policy, HIPAA, coding and relevant regulations, respond promptly to patient issues, share problems with supervisor, collaborate on quality improvement, advocate for vulnerable populations, foster educational experiences, and participate in patient feedback initiatives.
- Assist with chaperone duties for patient procedures when required.
- Perform other required duties as assigned.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must meet one of the following: graduation from an accredited medical assistant, phlebotomy, certified nursing assistant, emergency medical technician, or paramedic program. Mergers or acquisitions may satisfy via education, experience, and competencies.
Experience
Minimum one (1) year experience as medical assistant, certified nursing assistant, EMT, ACA, PCA/PCT, paramedic, or phlebotomist. New graduates with less than one year may be considered.
Licensure & Certification
Preferred: CCMA, CMA, AAMA, RMA;
Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred. Certification may substitute for MA school graduation.
