The Project Manager will provide technical and managerial leadership to project teams working on planning, evaluation, design and implementation of civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will lead the study phase and/or design phase of projects related to the civil and construction fields. The Project Manager will direct/coordinate the development of new civil engineering designs. Responsibilities include leading the research and development stage of projects, creating detailed project plans, proposing budgets, staffing, and equipment needs.

The Project Manager will regularly interact with employees outside their department, occasionally interact with clients, and regularly interact with the public (agencies, government entities, etc.). They will regularly participate in selling to clients and are expected to engage in business development and client retention efforts. The Project Manager is expected to manage assigned P&L of a project while maintaining a professional presence.

They will represent the Company and the department in a positive light and have an advanced level of software knowledge of at least two (2) engineering software packages. An Ohio Professional Engineering license is required for this role.

• Consults with and guides project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various designs and modifications.
• Uses design software and drawing tools to render and communicate designs; plans and designs other necessary improvements related to the project.
• Sets design specifications by computing appropriate engineering requirements (e.g., water flow rates, traffic demand, earthwork balance).
• Plans projects based on analysis of relevant materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geologic and topographical data.
• Drafts and presents detention reports and engineering due diligence reports.
• Collaborates with architects, contractors, and other engineers to ensure projects progress properly.
• Collaborates with surveyors to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors affecting construction.
• Monitors project progress and ensures design specifications and standards are met.
• Writes proposals for advanced-level projects and assigns projects to team members, overseeing accuracy and timeliness of work and time entry.
• Manages workload of assigned staff and mentors assigned personnel.
• Demonstrates advanced understanding of civil engineering practices and fundamental design of projects; positively impacts financial metrics of projects.
• Interacts with clients to understand goals and relay them to the design team; develops business by selling the Company’s services to existing clients.
• Guides assigned team to meet client goals on time and on budget; develops, mentors, trains, evaluates, coaches, and acknowledges staff.
• Assigns Co-Ops, Graduate Civil Engineers, Associate Civil Engineers, Civil Project Engineers, and Senior Civil Project Engineers to appropriate project work.
• Motivates and leads team members to successful completion of projects on time and on budget.
• Reviews projects for compliance with regulatory requirements based on state and local regulations.
• Develops and coaches assigned staff; evaluates and hires, trains, and disciplines as necessary.

• Prospects and pursues qualified referrals; facilitates introductions on behalf of the company for leads.
• Prepares proposals and works with Marketing to develop statements of qualifications (SOQs); leads successful client kick-off meetings.
• Adheres to marketing initiatives and activity standards; nurtures relationships with previous and current clients.
• Executes project closeout activities and performs other related duties as assigned.

• Civil Engineering Degree (or related)
• Minimum 7 consecutive years of Civil Engineering experience
• Public speaking ability desired

• Advanced understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools
• Understanding of design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analysis software
• Basic understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction of site and transportation infrastructure
• Ability to identify and solve complex problems
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; creative and analytical
• Extremely detail-oriented and accurate

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally
