Position Purpose

The Medical/Surgical unit at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s is 40 beds. The Registered Nurse will primarily care for medical and surgical patients, with some oncology patients. The unit also cares for adolescent patients aged 13 and over. Med/Surg is a fast-paced, engaging environment focused on individualized and evidence-based care, offering opportunities to grow and learn about diverse diagnoses.

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors, the Staff Registered Nurse, within the scope of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, provides care sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. The Registered Nurse collaborates in a spirit of teamwork and is accountable for the delivery of patient care using the Nursing Process within organizational standards, policies, procedures and guidelines.

What You Will Do

• Assess and evaluate patient care for an assigned group of patients, utilizing evidence-based practice; assist providers with patient assessment, examinations and treatments; perform basic medical procedures under provider supervision, including setup of procedures.
• Administer medications under the direction of the provider, according to organizational standards, policies, procedures, and/or guidelines.
• Assist in emergency situations under the direction of the provider.
• Educate patients and family members about procedures, diagnoses and disease processes.
• Document accurately and completely pertinent assessments, interventions and outcomes for patients in accordance with documentation standards, policies, procedures and/or guidelines.
• Assume responsibility and accountability for care provided and documented by other licensed and unlicensed care givers as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of a School of Nursing
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio
• Current BLS/CPR
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage patient care, including delegation to and supervision of other members of the patient care team
• Basic computer skills; prior experience using an EMR for charting preferred
