Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance, General Labor, Heavy Equipment Operator
Performs intermediate semiskilled work assisting with public works installation, maintenance and repair projects, operating equipment, performing a variety of manual labor, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Street Superintendent and Foreman, Work hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with a 1 hour for lunch;
may be required to work odd hours and weekends, as needed. This position is required to be on-call for after-hours emergencies.

Essential Functions- Operates trucks, backhoe and related equipment when assigned.
- Operates hand tools and small equipment in performing assigned tasks.
- Mows grass; helps pick up trash and debris; trims trees.
- Paints street lines and curbs.
- Helps set forms and pour concrete.
- Assists with traffic control at construction sites.
- Performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment.
- Assists with snow and ice control.
- May assist with patching, sealing cracks, filling potholes, etc.
- Preforms additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Some knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned; skill in the use of hand tools and equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical RequirementsThis work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling;
work requires distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires operating machines and operating motor vehicles or equipment; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles;
work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Valid commercial driver's license in the State of Indiana (ability to obtain).
