Job DescriptionWestfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for an open Preschool Speech and Language Pathologist position for the school year.
JOB SUMMARY:
- Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
- Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and hearing handicapped children.
- Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing and language impairments upon request.
- Provide appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
- Confer with principals, teachers and parents frequently regarding the student's progress.
- Provide in-service education and serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
- Keep and maintain thorough pertinent records.
- Assist in screening procedures.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of schools.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
The salary and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A collective bargaining agreement. Salary placement will be based on the information contained in the application as submitted.
If hired, qualified applicants may receive a five thousand dollar ($5,000.00) hiring bonus.
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.
This position is subject to funding.

Job Requirements- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current and valid certification as a teacher of speech and hearing impaired children by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Certificate of clinical competence as a speech/language pathologist (Candidates in their clinical fellowship year will be considered).
- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the office. Work is largely sedentary and light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers.
