Baystate Noble Hospital’s Operating Room provides high-quality surgical care in a patient-centered, community hospital setting. The OR supports a range of surgical specialties and is committed to safety, teamwork, and excellent outcomes for patients and families.
Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Unit Manager, RN Clinical Operations Coordinator, and/or RN Service Leads, the Surgical Technologist works directly with surgeons and physicians to support the safe, efficient performance of invasive and minimally invasive surgical procedures. This role requires strong knowledge of aseptic technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and advancing technologies. The Surgical Technologist anticipates provider needs, maintains the sterile field, and promotes optimal patient outcomes across a variety of surgical specialties.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain safety, operation, inspection, and management of surgical equipment and instruments per manufacturer guidelines and departmental policies.
- Function as an integral member of the operating room team with knowledge of patient history, allergies, and intra-operative care plans.
- Prepare and manage pharmacological agents on the sterile field, ensuring accurate labeling, dosing, and mixtures.
- Maintain a safe environment that supports aseptic technique and patient safety.
- Complete required documentation within the Surgical Technologist scope of practice.
- Demonstrate proficiency in sharps safety, intra-operative temperature regulation, and specimen handling and labeling.
- Communicate effectively using appropriate medical terminology.
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program (CAAHEP or equivalent), or completion of a structured training program with a recognized professional equivalent.
- Certification required for new hires without surgical facility experience prior to July 1, 2013.
