Patient Care Technician

Full Time, 40 Hours, Evenings – Req# R39397

Summary:

Daily activities are coordinated by the Registered Nurse (RN). The PCT will perform a variety of technical tasks and bedside functions. Responsibilities include Direct Patient care; hygiene, skin care, mobility, monitoring. Multi-skills for phlebotomy and EKGs. Manage equipment. Assist in all unit procedures.

• Provides age-appropriate care to patients.
• Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages for age groups; applies theories and concepts in care.
• Monitors basic physiological parameters and records routine vital signs within timeframe.
• Obtains and documents weights, heights, abdominal girths, head circumference (pediatric) per orders.
• Administers treatments and procedures per policy.
• Changes dressings within one hour of specified timeframe.
• Provides post-mortem care per RN policy.
• Assists physicians with exams and simple procedures; verifies patient identity.
• Assists patients with elimination of body wastes; provides bedpan, urinal, emesis basin after request.
• Labels and sends specimens within 30 minutes per policy; records intake and output per policy.
• Performs Point of Care (POC) Testing and ancillary services.
• Communicates effectively with team and patients; maintains patient safety at all times.
• Functions as member of the team; provides feedback and assists with non-clinical activities.

• At least one year of patient care experience (varied in level of long-term care, specialty, acute care, etc.).

• None

• Proficient in reading and writing in English.
• Able to maintain professional composure in medium to high-stress situations.
• Effective communication skills.

GED or HiSET (Required)

• Basic Life Support – American Heart Association.
• Certified Nurse Aide – Other.
