Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior administrative experience strongly preferred
  • 1–2 years of experience in customer service (healthcare setting preferred)
  • Ability to work rotating days, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to multitask
  • Computer literate
  • Experience with electronic health records a plus
Education & Certifications
  • Education: GED or HiSET (required)

Compensation Philosophy

Job Summary

Reports to the Nurse Manager and is coordinated daily by the charge nurse. Under direct supervision, works with patient and family‑centered care teams to ensure all business functions related to processing patient information, managing documentation, organizing patient medical records, and facilitating smooth unit operations. Performs functions necessary to process direct admissions to the unit, acts as receptionist for visitors, and is a business partner to the department and clinical staff.

Job Responsibilities
  • Bed Management: tracks, prioritizes and assigns beds; communicates with BMD and BM for admissions, discharges and transfers; coordinates unit/department ADTs; checks BMD for new data and advises Charge Nurse; follows up on discharge orders; enters discharges in OA Gold; rounds 3 times daily with RNs and CM regarding discharges and special instructions.
  • Utilizes computer applications: C Word, OA Gold, SMS, CIS, Premise, BMD, PCM Auditor, People Soft, Staples and Kronos access if applicable.
  • Unit specific projects: project work as assigned, payroll, committee participation, develop unit time schedules, etc.
  • Communication: provides report/handoff to next shift; contacts other departments for priority tests; answers telephones and relays messages; coordinates communication with NEOPO and related paperwork.
  • Unit‑based resource for Zoned Hospitalist and medical/surgical teaching teams; assists Hospitalist during clinical rounds; maintains specific workspace for Hospitalists.
  • Serves as a greeter for new patients/families to the unit; assists other departments with information and answers to questions as requested.
  • Hospital Records and logs: maintains patient chart, prepares record prior to transfer and discharge, explains and obtains signatures for Medicare forms, organizes chart, sends discharge record to HIM.
