Food Service Worker​/Mess Attendant

Job Summary

No Experience? No Problem!! We welcome applicants who qualify for the Ability One Program. It's a federal program that helps adults with disabilities find jobs and receive support services.

This is 1 weekend per month:
Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8:00am - 4:00pm.

• Clean dishes using large commercial dishwashing machines; scrub heavily soiled pots and pans by hand.
• Sort dirty dishes from different service areas, rinse quickly, and load them properly into the machine, following all health and safety rules.
• Sanitize dishes and put them away in their proper spots, ready for the next meal.
• Keep work areas clean: sweep, mop floors, wipe down surfaces, and clear away food scraps.
• Take out trash and recyclables from dining, kitchen, and dishwashing zones; replace liners and follow disposal rules.
• Reset dining area between meals: wipe down tables, refill condiments, stock napkins, and maintain a welcoming look.
• Help with food service setup—stock utensils, trays, kitchen supplies and set up tray line when needed.
• Follow supervisor instructions to ensure kitchen and dining areas meet safety and cleanliness standards.
• Wear protective gear such as gloves, aprons, and slip‑resistant shoes for safety.
• Work closely with the team during busy meal times to ensure smooth flow.
• Wrap up your shift by finishing all cleaning tasks, putting away supplies, checking out with your supervisor, and leaving the area neat.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds regularly.
• Must stand and walk for long periods, often on hard or slippery surfaces.
• Frequent use of hands and arms for cleaning, lifting, and handling kitchen equipment.
• Requires bending, kneeling, and reaching to complete routine tasks.
• Exposure to hot surfaces, steam, and dishwashing equipment; occasional work in cold areas like refrigerators or freezers.
• Work environment may be noisy due to equipment and kitchen activity.
• Floors may be wet or humid—non‑slip footwear may be required for safety.
• Regular use of cleaning chemicals; proper PPE such as gloves and aprons must be worn.
• Good vision, hearing, and hand coordination are needed for safe and efficient work.
• Reasonable accommodations can be provided.
