Veterinary Practice Manager – Emergency & Specialty

Westford Veterinary Emergency & Referral Center | Westford, Massachusetts

$70, a year depending on experience

Westford Veterinary Emergency & Referral Center (WVERC) is looking for an experienced Veterinary Practice Manager to help lead the continued growth and success of our 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital.

This is a senior operational leadership role for someone who can see the big picture while staying connected to the day-to-day realities of hospital operations. Working directly with the Director of Hospital Operations and in close partnership with medical leadership, you’ll help strengthen teams, improve performance, develop leaders, and turn hospital priorities into meaningful action.

We’re not looking for someone who simply keeps the hospital running. We’re looking for a leader who can help make it better.

What You'll Do Lead Hospital Operations
  • Oversee day-to-day operations across a complex emergency and specialty hospital.
  • Establish clear priorities, goals, expectations, and accountability across teams and departments.
  • Identify operational challenges, investigate root causes, and drive practical solutions.
  • Create consistency across hospital systems, workflows, communication, and processes.
  • Balance immediate operational needs with longer-term hospital goals and priorities.
  • Serve as a visible, engaged leader who understands when to step in, when to delegate, and when to escape.
Develop Leaders & Build Strong Teams
  • Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors, managers, and team members.
  • Help leaders strengthen their skills in communication, accountability, performance management, and team development.
  • Set clear expectations and address performance or behavioral concerns directly and professionally.
  • Build a culture where employees feel supported, heard, and accountable for their contributions.
  • Identify and develop future leaders within the hospital.
  • Encourage collaboration and effective communication across clinical, client service, and administrative teams.
Drive Performance & Continuous Improvement
  • Translate broader organizational priorities into clear, actionable goals for the hospital.
  • Use operational and financial data to understand hospital performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor trends related to efficiency, staffing, productivity, client experience, team engagement, and financial performance.
  • Evaluate whether new processes and initiatives are working and adjust when needed.
  • Look beyond immediate challenges to identify opportunities for sustainable growth and improvement.
Partner Across Medical & Operational Leadership
  • Work closely with the Director of Hospital Operations and medical leadership to align operational and clinical priorities.
  • Build strong relationships across doctors, technicians, client service teams, supervisors, and support departments.
  • Facilitate communication and problem-solving when challenges cross departmental lines.
  • Help ensure operational decisions support exceptional patient care, client experience, employee engagement, and responsible business performance.
Lead Through Growth & Change
  • Help teams successfully navigate new systems, processes, expectations, and organizational initiatives.
  • Communicate the purpose behind changes and create clarity around what success looks like.
  • Remain steady and solutions-focused when priorities shift or challenges arise.
  • Help create structure, accountability, and momentum during periods of growth or transition.
What We're Looking For
  • Significant leadership experience within veterinary medicine, ideally in an emergency, specialty, referral, or similarly complex hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, developing managers or supervisors, and creating…
