Quantity Surveyor

M Group Energy is recruiting a quantity surveyor for its Transmission and Renewables team, which designs, builds and commissions substations at voltages up to and including 400kV and maintains transmission lines. The advert places the work on the SSE overhead lines project at Aberdeen, and the posting's own address is the company's Westhill office in Aberdeenshire.

The surveyor will help prepare reports and claims to time and with accurate information, support the commercial systems used on site and keep documentation current as project risks change.

Subcontractor and supplier management runs through the role, covering quotations, contracts, monthly checks and final accounts, and the successful applicant is expected to develop knowledge of commercial practice and contract law rather than arrive with all of it.

Other duties include:

• identifying opportunities to recover cost and improve project margin
• contributing to monthly financial reports and forecasts
• attending handover and progress meetings
• assisting with site manuals

The advert asks for suggestions that improve accuracy and reduce administrative time, and it describes close working with commercial managers and other surveyors so that cover is maintained. The arrangement is hybrid once the appointee is established in the team, stated as three days in the office or on site and two days remote.

Pay is described only as competitive with benefits, so no figure is published.
