The Role:
We are looking for a motivated Junior Software Engineer to support the development and ongoing enhancement of software solutions across the JFD product range. Working closely with experienced engineers, you will contribute to new product development, system improvements, and through-life support activities, helping to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions that meet customer needs while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and engineering excellence.

What

you'll be doing:
  • Supporting the development, enhancement, and maintenance of software solutions across both existing products and new system developments.
  • Assisting with software change management activities for both current and legacy codebases, ensuring updates are implemented, tested, and documented effectively.
  • Contributing to the creation and maintenance of engineering documentation, including specifications, proposals, test plans, reports, user guides, and technical manuals.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support the delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet customer and business requirements.
  • Following established engineering standards, development processes, and best practices to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance.
  • Supporting software testing, troubleshooting, and defect resolution activities throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Participating in site visits to JFD locations and customer sites, as required, to support project delivery, product integration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant internal procedures, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality management processes.
  • Continuously developing your technical knowledge and skills while contributing to the ongoing improvement of products, systems, and engineering practices.
  • Building positive working relationships by acting with integrity, collaborating effectively with colleagues, and contributing to a culture of trust, teamwork, and innovation.
What we're looking for:
  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • An understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and a desire to apply software engineering best practices throughout the development process.
  • A strong understanding of the fundamentals of object-oriented programming.
  • Experience preferably with one or more of the following programming languages: C#, C/C++, Rust, or Java.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and develop effective solutions.
  • A proactive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a genuine interest in developing a career in software engineering.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable software solutions.
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Familiarity with software development and project management tools such as Azure Dev Ops, Git Hub, or similar platforms.
  • Experience using source code version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Knowledge of network and serial communication protocols.
  • Exposure to user interface (UI) design and development.
  • Understanding of database design and development principles.
  • Knowledge of software design methodologies, architectures, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience working within regulated, safety-critical, or engineering-focused environments would be advantageous.
