Municipal Accountant (Finance)

The Accountant is responsible for applying the principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.

The Accountant is responsible for applying the principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.

• Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
• Produces monthly P&L and balance sheet.
• Calculates commissions for sales reps monthly.
• Makes recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
• Conducts studies and submits recommendations for improving the organization's accounting operation.
• Coordinates monthly close process.
• Participate in internal and external audits.
• Understands and adheres to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Accurate and attentive to detail.
• Excellent understanding of accounting principles.
• Proficient computer (Excel and Word)/ten key skills.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

High school diploma with 1-3 years prior administrative experience in a professional office environment.
