Job Overview

The Manager, Tax role at Equity Trust Company ensures compliance with all tax regulations and reporting requirements. The individual researches and recommends effective strategies for meeting tax responsibilities while maximizing opportunities related to credits and exemptions.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Prepare the filing and reporting of the organization’s recipient tax documents, including Forms 5498, 1099, and 945.
  • Partner with the Company’s third-party tax vendor to meet IRS recipient and transmittal filing deadlines.
  • Manage the reporting and filing of the Company’s escheatment process in accordance with regulatory guidelines and state deadlines.
  • Partner with the Company’s third-party escheatment vendor to complete state‑mandated due diligence, reporting, and remittance activities by deadlines.
  • Stay current with regulatory tax reporting requirements and communicate procedural updates or client communications per IRS rules and regulations.
  • Collaborate with Finance to resolve IRS and State tax agency inquiries and communications.
  • Oversee and complete tax reporting and filing corrections from the trust accounting system, including revised tax form delivery and amended filings.
  • Ensure regulatory mailings are completed and delivered in accordance with IRS requirements.
  • Drive business results as a subject matter expert, foster process efficiencies, lead projects, and ensure project implementations meet plan.
  • Track progress against goals or post-mortem tax items and present results, insights, and recommendations to management.
  • Meet monthly with team members to provide performance feedback.
  • Implement team and individual training needs and continuing education opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver corrective action plans and complete performance appraisals per company guidelines.
  • Integrate tax accounting records of acquired entities into appropriate records.
  • Make recommendations on tax credits and exemptions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on tax-related issues.
  • Assist with internal and external tax or escheatment audits and preparing guidelines or policies related to tax compliance.
  • Support quarterly custodial statement process to ensure accurate reporting and timely delivery.
  • Evaluate processes and systems to identify gaps or create process improvements.
  • Research tax-related issues as needed.
  • Manage special projects within the team and support cross‑organization projects and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; relevant work experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience including direct team management in a financial services, banking, or operational role.
  • Financial services experience preferred.
Professional Certifications
  • None required
Technical Skills
  • Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. The associate is regularly required to speak and hear, sit for extended periods, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. The role may require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and occasional climbing or bending as necessary.
