General Purpose

The Retail Associate ensures customers have a positive shopping experience. Responsibilities include greeting customers, maintaining a clean work area, presenting merchandise properly, and supporting operational goals across all store areas.

Essential Functions
  • Practice safety as the top priority and report unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Maintain a clutter‑free sales floor with clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Treat all customers and associates with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Assist customers, operate the register, answer product questions, and greet them with eye contact and a smile.
  • Respond promptly to customer service calls and resolve issues courteously, escalating to leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks: sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high‑touch areas.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the company’s dress code.
  • Complete daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean and well‑merchandised.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandising per company best practice and monthly presentation guidelines.
  • Understand Loss Prevention Awareness, the Shortage Highway, and merchandise protection standards.
  • Demonstrate integrity, safeguard confidential information, cash and merchandise.
  • Follow Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock (MOS) policies and procedures for disposals.
  • Adhere to cash handling policies and maintain accuracy when processing financial transactions.
  • Demonstrate urgency and maximize productivity by executing store best practices efficiently.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner.

Perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs.
  • Be able to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • Some assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
  • Associates in stockroom shifts may need to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
