Position Summary

RSI is recruiting for an Environmental/Ecological Engineer who will be responsible for Contribute to optimizing long-term surveillance and maintenance by integrating ecological engineering principles into the design, evaluation, and adaptive management of disposal sites (landfills), with a focus on geotechnical and ecological design integration for disposal cell performance. This role also communicates program activities, their mission value, and anticipated outcomes to peers and senior stakeholders, ensuring alignment between AS&T’s technical work and mission objectives.

Hiring Range: $85,000.00 - $ per year.

This position is required to travel 10% of the time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the integration of ecological engineering principles into the design, performance evaluation, and adaptive management of disposal cells, with a focus on geotechnical or geomorphological and ecological principles.
  • Develop best practices for long-term effectiveness, resource optimization, and reduced maintenance of ecological engineering solutions.
  • Incorporate ecological engineering criteria into disposal cover designs, considering native vegetation, soil hydrological properties, biodiversity, and long-term erosion resistance.
  • Manage use and development of data visualization applications.
  • Configure, apply, and provide user support for AS&T studies designed to improve disposal cell performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience
  • Master’s degree in Ecological Engineering, Civil Engineering (with ecological focus), Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Soil Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • No professional certification required.

Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering, scientific, and/or mathematical concepts and theories in area of specialty. Experience in ecological engineering applications for waste containment (landfills), remediation, or land reclamation.
  • Engineering and/or scientific research principles, practices, and protocols.
  • Demonstrated experience in geotechnical and ecological investigations, including surface and subsurface exploration and in‑situ testing.
  • Strong understanding of soil characterization and mechanics principles and their application to foundation design, slope stability analysis, and earth retention systems.
  • Working knowledge of soil science, hydrology, plant ecology, biogeochemical cycling.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of framing technical results in terms of mission impact and stakeholder priorities for a non‑technical audience.
  • Working knowledge of managing data and data visualization tools.
  • Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
