- Assign projects and balance workloads based on deadlines, project complexity, and team capacity.
- Set clear expectations for estimate quality, completeness, and turnaround time.
- Coach and develop estimators, providing feedback and addressing performance issues.
- Serve as the team’s first point of contact for questions, priorities, and estimating challenges.
- Manage the bid schedule from initial opportunity review through final proposal submission.
- Ensure estimates address scope, quantities, labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, exclusions, and project-specific risks.
- Review estimates and proposals for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
- Maintain estimating standards, templates, pricing resources, and review procedures.
- Coordinate with operations and project management to incorporate lessons learned and actual project costs into future estimates.
- Work with the Vice President & Director to develop a plan for identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing bids to pursue.
- Evaluate opportunities based on project fit, customer relationships, team capacity, schedule, risk, and company goals.
- Recommend which opportunities to pursue and allocate estimating resources in accordance with the agreed plan.
- Revisit priorities with the Vice President & Director as opportunities, workloads, and business needs change.
