Pay Grade: N/A (Use hourly rate for Tutor based on Degree)

Effective date: 7/1/25 – Tutor Scale

Pay rates:

  • AS: $16.21
  • BS: $20.85
  • MS: $23.17
  • Lead – Minimum BS Degree (+10%): $22.94
  • MS or PhD – Lead: $25.49
  • Dually Enrolled – Assistant Tutor: $15.00

Note: BS or MS Degree must be in the field that is being tutored, otherwise pay rate will be at AS level. Transcript must be sent with Hourly Hire Request Form to confirm pay rate.

Job Summary

Tutors facilitate tutoring and learning, provide academic support to CCC students through one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions in subjects for which the tutor has been specifically hired to support, and serve as a guide and coach to assist students to become successful independent learners while creating a comfortable and supporting atmosphere. Reports to the Senior Director, Academic Services, or the Assistant Director, Academic Services.

We are looking for Math, CIS, Computer Science, Psychology, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, and Genetics tutors. Ideally, these tutors will work on campus.

Essential Job Functions
  • Help tutees develop study skills and acclimate to college level coursework
  • Communicate subject matter to tutees in a concise and effective manner
  • Navigate learning obstacles by understanding learning styles and integrating effective study and learning strategies for academic success
  • Develop independent learning by promoting appropriate learning attitudes and behaviors
  • Monitor student understanding and require tutees to participate in sessions
  • Maintain academic honesty by not doing a tutees homework or take-home quizzes/exams
  • Maintain consistent weekly availability in the Academic Center
  • Submit accurate timesheets and all session-related paperwork in a timely manner
  • Maintain excellent responsibility, reliability, punctuality, and professional behavior
  • Attend trainings, participate in professional development as required, and develop a good understanding of college services, support, and online resources
  • Create a welcoming and positive environment that is sensitive to student diversity
  • Greet visitors, students, faculty and staff; perform reception desk duties
  • Demonstrate above-average creative problem-solving, critical thinking, patience, and decision-making skills
  • Maintain tutor-student confidentiality; uphold college and Academic Center’s mission statements; handle confidential information in compliance with FERPA and Title IX.
  • Use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi‑line telephone systems
  • Use computers for word processing
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements to Perform Work
  • Associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in related field
  • Extensive coursework in the subject area to be tutored
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be positive, cooperative, and supportive
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in related field
  • Experience in educational environment
Physical Demands

This work is normally sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

  • Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
  • Visual Acuity/ability to perceive or detect surroundings
  • Mental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matter
  • Repetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)
  • Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another
Work Environment

College campus, direct contact with students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common and shared areas, offices, and campus environments. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms. Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing with some highly technical applications and new technology systems;

avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations and observance of all College policies. Work hours may vary
