This position combines hands‑on diagnostic expertise with advanced electrical design, ensuring that every conversion meets the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Development
  • Design and develop electrical systems and custom wire harnesses for new and existing vehicle conversion platforms.
  • Create, modify, and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts to integrate mobility equipment such as lifts, ramps, HVAC systems, lighting, and auxiliary controls.
  • Develop and document fuse, relay, and circuit protection strategies to ensure system safety and reliability.
  • Ensure all designs comply with OEM specifications, SAE standards, and FMVSS regulatory requirements.
System Integration & Testing
  • Evaluate and integrate electrical systems into OEM chassis architecture, including CAN bus communication and other vehicle networks.
  • Conduct bench‑ and vehicle‑level testing to verify electrical performance, EMI/EMC compliance, and durability.
  • Support prototype builds by validating design intent, conducting functional tests, and documenting findings.
  • Develop and oversee test plans, performance metrics, and validation procedures for new systems.
Diagnostics, Troubleshooting & Support
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on vehicle electrical systems to identify root causes of performance issues or failures.
  • Support production and service teams with troubleshooting, failure analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Train technicians and production staff in proper diagnostic methods, testing procedures, and safe handling of electrical systems.
  • Create and maintain electrical troubleshooting guides and diagnostic documentation for internal use.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner with mechanical and manufacturing engineers to ensure electrical systems align with production capabilities and assembly processes.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing to evaluate suppliers, components, and new technologies that improve cost, reliability, and ease of assembly.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline harness production, standardize components, and reduce field issues.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to the evolution of FR’s product and process standards.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering change notices (ECNs).
  • Maintain organized project documentation and revision control.
  • Ensure all electrical designs comply with company safety standards, regulatory mandates, and customer expectations.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline (or equivalent hands‑on experience).
  • 3–7 years of experience in automotive electrical systems design, wire harness engineering, or vehicle systems integration.
  • Proven experience with OEM vehicle electrical systems, CAN bus communication, and diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, scan tools, and breakout boxes.
  • Familiarity with electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, Solid Works Electrical, or equivalent tools.
  • Understanding of automotive electrical standards (SAE, ISO, FMVSS) and best practices for wiring, routing, and circuit protection.
  • Experience supporting low‑volume or specialty vehicle manufacturing is preferred.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong understanding of vehicle network communication (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and diagnostic protocols.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a methodical approach to electrical testing and validation.
  • Strong project management and documentation skills; ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication across departments.
  • Proactive, hands‑on problem solver with high attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Passionate about innovation, safety, and delivering vehicles that improve lives.
