JOB SUMMARY
Ensures that all services are delivered in accordance with the mission statement and SPIRIT values of Carroll Hospital Center. The cytotechnologist is responsible for preparing and screening all cytologic specimens, assisting on fine needle procedures, and interpreting findings under the direction of a pathologist, as described in regulatory standards. The cytotechnologist follows laboratory policies and procedures in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements (CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, CLIA).
They determine that test results meet the requirements of the quality control program; if not met, tests are repeated, and results are approved for reporting following department policy, with all necessary records and documentation maintained. The cytotechnologist is expected to utilize critical thinking skills and complex problem solving in resolving clinical and instrument issues.
REQUIREMENTS
- Required Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, cytology, or chemical sciences. The degree requirement may be waived by the manager if appropriately licensed, depending on experience.
- 2-4 years of experience required
- Board Registered Cytologist or specialist in Cytology by a recognized credentialing board
- Eligible to become Registered
- Licensed Cytologist (LC)
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral, are required to effectively interact with hospital personnel and outside contacts.
