Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Certified Tumor Registrar, the Cancer Registry Assistant supports the Oncology Cancer Registry by performing assigned duties such as case-finding, training to perform abstraction activities as needed, and completing follow-up tasks. This role supports the identification, collection, and processing of reportable cancer cases to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Cancer Registry Assistant also coordinates Life Bridge Health Oncology Service Line Cancer Conferences and works closely with clinical leaders, Pathology, Radiology, and the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Department to ensure accurate documentation and accreditation compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Life Bridge Health Oncology Service Line Cancer Conferences, including:
    • Collecting and organizing patient information
    • Collaborating with Pathology, Radiology, Oncology physicians, and clinical staff
    • Preparing PowerPoint presentations, agendas, and attendance sheets
    • Tracking conference data required for accreditation and documenting in CRStar
    • Maintaining conference tracking tools and records
  • Coordinate and manage Continuing Medical Education (CME) documentation in collaboration with the CME Office
  • Assist with cancer case-finding activities in compliance with Commission on Cancer (CoC) and Maryland Cancer Registry (MCR) rules
  • Update patient follow-up information by:
    • Reviewing medical records
    • Sending email and e-fax follow-up requests
    • Making follow-up phone calls to other hospitals
    • Maintaining follow-up rates compliant with CoC Program Standards (Standard 6.5)
  • Respond accurately and timely to requests for treatment or follow-up data
  • Train to perform abstraction duties under the supervision of a Certified Tumor Registrar
  • Assist with reporting cases to state and/or central registries, including follow-ups, updates, and physician contacts
  • Maintain current knowledge of Commission on Cancer standards and hospital cancer conference policies
  • Participate in at least one cancer-related educational webinar or conference annually
  • Support special projects, surveys, audits, database management, and other departmental needs as assigned
Qualifications
  • Medical Terminology:
    Strongly preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams
  • Strong organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Interest in oncology data, cancer registry operations, and healthcare compliance
