Job Summary

The primary responsibility is to ensure all persons have a safe and enjoyable experience while visiting or using the Westmont Park District facilities.

Under the direction of the Fitness & Membership Services Supervisor, the Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading “group fitness” classes, the direct supervision of program participants, and the planning and implementation of safe and innovative classes, as well as promoting health and fitness industry trends to customers and the community. Must possess excellent customer service skills and strong communication skills.

Hours: M-F 6:00-8:00am and/or T, W, Th, F 5:00P-8:00P,
Multiple 1-hour classes available during these time windows

Rate: $26-$31/ class
Status: Part-time

Essential Duties
  • Teach/instruct all classes to the ability of the participants.
  • Set up and monitors class equipment, and ensure its return in serviceable condition, ensure all equipment is clean and adequately sanitized prior to use as well cleaned and adequately sanitized after use.
  • Understand proper body alignment.
  • Know/understand technique and safety.
  • Understanding cueing, selecting appropriate choreography and music.
  • Understand your role as an instructor and a role model for healthy living for participants.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with the general public and fellow staff.
  • Demonstrate proper exercise and cueing techniques; create choreography for multi-level fitness classes that challenge beginners through advanced exercisers and provide modifications as needed. Build patterns logically and create smooth transitions.
  • Assist in compliance and follow all IDPH, State of Illinois CDC guidelines for running a health and fitness center.
  • Perform any additional related skills as needed.
Physical Demands:
  • Requires advanced level of movement for demonstrations and may require walking or standing for prolonged period.
  • In a 1-hour workday employee may engage in activities that may include, but are not limited to: standing, sitting, walking, driving, bending, twisting and lifting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certifications in one or more of the following preferred: ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NASM, and NSCA or another NCCA accredited organization.
  • Strong interest in fitness and health related areas.
  • Must be certified or willing to obtain certification in CPR, First Aid and AED training.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and some college preferred.
  • The ability to speak in public with good communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and provide own transportation.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or have related fitness instructor experience.
