SEND 1:1 Learning Support Mentor ASD / ASC, SEMH Role Overview
We are a new & expanding Alternative Education Provision serving primary & secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs relating to SEMH. We operate a ‘revolving-door’ offering whereby students stay at the provision for up to 18 weeks, either on a full-time or part-time "transition" basis before returning to a mainstream education setting or attending a special school.
We are seeking a motivated professional to support learners who have SEMH and have experienced trauma, and may also have ASC / ASD needs. The ideal individual will act as a positive role model and deliver an alternative education curriculum, recognising the emotional and educational needs of learners and creating appropriate learning activities & opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a positive role model for learners.
- Deliver an alternative education curriculum.
- Recognise the emotional and educational needs of individual learners.
- Create and manage appropriate learning activities and opportunities.
- Support learners through transition back to mainstream or special schooling.
- Engage parents to support children at home by setting boundaries and managing behaviour.
- Previous experience working with learners who have SEMH, trauma, ASC / ASD.
- Training in positive behaviour management (Team Teach / PBM / MAPA) and/or THRIVE preferred;
Team Teach training will be offered free of charge and is a requirement if successful. - Practical experience of working with children displaying challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding young people and helping them overcome difficulties.
- Understanding of effective intervention strategies that maximise academic and personal achievement.
- Type:
Temp-Perm via 60‑day trial. - Hours:
Full‑time/Part‑time (Mon‑Fri, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm). - Location:
Weston Super Mare (secondary ages). - Start Date:
1 Sep 2025. - Salary: £18,000 – £22,000 p.a. (trial: £15.38 – £17.95 ph).
