Position: 1:1 Learning Support Assistant / LSA (ASD)

1:1 Learning Support Assistant / LSA (ASD) – Mainstream Primary School, Weston-super-Mare

Start: ASAP / After February Half Term | Full-Time | Until End of Academic Year (with potential to continue) | Salary: £90‑£110 per day (depending on experience)

We're working with a welcoming mainstream primary school in Weston-super-Mare who are looking to appoint a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant / LSA to support a pupil with Autism (ASD) and some associated challenging behaviour. This is a rewarding role in a supportive school that takes inclusion seriously. The child requires consistency, patience and someone confident in setting clear boundaries while building a positive, trusting relationship.

You will be working closely with the class teacher, SENCo and wider support staff to help the pupil access learning, manage emotions and feel secure within the school environment.

Responsibilities
  • Providing 1:1 support within the classroom
  • Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour management
  • Adapting learning tasks to meet individual needs
  • Implementing strategies from EHCP targets
  • Liaising with staff and parents where appropriate
Qualifications
  • Experience supporting children with ASD
  • Confidence managing challenging behaviour calmly and consistently
  • Knowledge or experience of ABA, PECS and/or Makaton (highly desirable)
  • Patient, resilient and proactive
  • Ability to build strong, positive relationships
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training would be beneficial but isn't essential
