The RoleWe are seeking a dedicated and experienced Development Worker to join our Community Learning Service. The Community Learning Team are responsible for delivering high quality Further Education courses to North Somerset residents aged 19 and over. The team targets those at risk of social, digital and financial exclusion.
In this role, you will; undertake a diverse range of activities within a service function using skills gained through formal qualifications/and or considerable work experience.
You will work unsupervised for much of the time demonstrating high levels of motivation, excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage your time efficiently.
Key Responsibilities- To organise a range of Community Learning courses that support the development of new skills, improve wellbeing, increase employability and build confidence and motivation.
- To meet enrolment and guided learning hour targets through delivery of a curriculum that meets the needs of the community.
- To build positive relationships with partner agencies through proactive joint working to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for both learners and partners.
- To ensure course paperwork is completed to a high standard and provides clear evidence of the learning journey for each individual.
- To evaluate and report on the effectiveness of community learning activities – including the tracking of learners and their progression outcomes.
- To contribute to Ofsted inspection preparation, self-assessment and annual review.
- To supervise tutors, and volunteers to meet required standards in course delivery.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Work StyleAt North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Mobile/Field Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 0-1 day in the office
- Includes field workers who primarily work remotely.
- Comes into the office for meetings or focused work. Virtual connections with the team are essential, with portable technology supporting work on the go.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about giving vulnerable adults access to inclusive educational opportunities, and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria- At least a Level 3 Award in Training and Education or equivalent, or willingness to undertake to complete further relevant qualification training.
- Significant practical experience of working in an education setting with a diverse group of learners.
- A sound understanding of the needs of vulnerable learners and those facing multiple barriers to learning volunteering and work.
- Knowledge of best practice in teaching and learning including curriculum design in community and family learning.
- Ability to use a wide range of ICT applications that support planning, delivering and monitoring of community learning.
- Ability to manage work without close supervision.
- Experience of supervising tutors and LSAs.
- Experience working with ESOL learners including asylum seekers and refugees.
