Learning Support Assistant – SEN / SEMH

Location: Weston-super-Mare

Rate of Pay: £93–£115 per day

Start Date: Immediately – Ongoing

About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting children and helping them overcome barriers to learning? Connex Education is recruiting a caring and dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work with primary-aged pupils with SEN / Special Educational Needs and SEMH / Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs across schools in Weston-super-Mare.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, empathetic, and confident supporting children with a range of additional needs. You will work closely with teachers and school staff to provide tailored support, helping pupils build confidence, develop positive relationships, and engage with their learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to primary-aged pupils.
  • Support pupils with SEN / Special Educational Needs and SEMH / Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
    .
  • Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and engage positively in the classroom.
  • Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Help manage behaviour using positive and supportive strategies.
  • Adapt support to meet the individual needs of each pupil.
  • Work closely with teachers and wider school staff.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

Job Requirements
  • Experience supporting children or young people is desirable.
  • Experience working with SEN / Special Educational Needs or SEMH / Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs is beneficial.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning, development, and wellbeing.
  • Patient, empathetic, and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • Confident supporting children with behavioural and emotional needs.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible, reliable, and able to adapt to different school environments.

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
